In the wake of Hurricane Helene, first responders in Western North Carolina found themselves facing more than just physical challenges. The mental health of these brave men and women began to decline under the weight of the trauma they experienced, leading to an urgent call for help. When we at The Journey Home Project were personally notified of this need, we knew immediate action was necessary.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we we were able to provide funds right away. This along with the organizations allowed them to deploy specialized mental health therapists to Newland, NC, to provide critical care to the first responders who were most affected. These therapists, Ari and Barb, have been working tirelessly on the ground, offering trauma-informed care, valuable advice, and—perhaps most importantly—a listening ear and helping hand to those who give so much to their communities.
“We owe a special thanks to the Journey Home Foundation, Brian Burke at Alpha Stim, Therabody, and 180 Float for their support in making this possible. Their contributions have been invaluable in ensuring that the mental health needs of these first responders are addressed in a timely and compassionate manner.”
At The Journey Home Project, we believe in not only supporting veterans but also those on the front lines who serve our communities in times of crisis. This initiative is just one of many ways we aim to give back and make a lasting impact where it’s needed most.
